Where do our fundraising dollars get spent?

School council supported the school in many different ways during 2016/2017:

The following illustrates how the Parent Council supported Huntley Centennial PS during the 2016-17 school year:

  • Provided hot lunches for students in need.
  • Provided Lunch Cupboard for forgotten lunches.
  • Provided Juice Boxes for the Terry Fox Run.
  • Provided Freezies for Junior and Intermediate Track and Field Day, Primary Play Day and Kindergarten Bubble Day.
  • Provided funding for line painting on the playing fields.
  • Supported Arts Performances in School.
  • Supported Spring Arts Festival.
  • Hosted a Scientists In School Family Science Night with assistance from the School Board’s Annual Grant for Parent Involvement.
  • Supported Grade 8 Graduating Class by donating a percentage of the Milk sale profits.
  • Provided a Catered Lunch for teachers and staff during the early June PD day.
  • Raz Kids Subscription supporting summer reading.
  • Contributed to the School Greening Project – 5 year plan to replace the existing play structure and provide a 4 season outdoor space for pupils.
  • Purchased  a Polaroid Zip Instant Photo Printer and Paper.
  • Purchased National Geographic Global Issues.
  • Purchased Hockey Helmets for Skating Trips.
  • Purchased Rain Barrels for the Gardening Club.
  • Purchased Soccer Jerseys.

Items that HCPS Parent-Council spent funds on:

  • Kindergarten – outdoor active equipment (replacements).
  • Intermediate & Primary: hands on science equipment. School supplied consumables
  • Arm bands for field trips
  • Music Stands
  • I-Tunes gift cards for classroom use
  • Soccer pitch line painting
  • Juice boxes for Terry Fox run
  • Freezies for students – track & field, bubble day and Fun day
  • Arts performances in the school
  • Gardening club support
  • Arts festival support
  • Grade 8 Graduation support
  • Teacher appreciation lunches

Several families in financial need in our school community, were supported by providing food for a school lunch cupboard, subsidized hot lunches and milk, and Christmas baskets.

School Council also organized a speaker series in 2016; comprising of 2 keynote speakers:

  • In January: Dr. Tim Pychyl, Director of the Centre for Initiative in Education and Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at Carleton University presented: Why don’t they just do it? Understanding our children’s procrastination.
  • In March: Natalia McPhedran, Author and Digital Parenting Coach, presented: 4 Ways to Keep Kids in Check on Social Media

Items that HCPS Parent-Council spent funds on:

  • Science equipment for Junior & Intermediate divisions
  • Sports equipment school wide
  • Technology – Projectors, chrome books and Apple TV boxes for classrooms
  • Arts performances in the school
  • Hot Lunches and Milk for students in need
  • Lunch cupboard for forgotten lunches
  • RAZ online book membership – to support summer reading
  • Soccer pitch line painting
  • Teacher appreciation lunches
  • Juice boxes for Terry Fox run
  • Freezies for students – track & field, bubble day and Fun day
  • Gardening club support

  • School Greening project fund (5 year plan)

School council supported the school in many different ways during 2013/2014:

School Council donated $4,500 to the Arts Committee, and the school scheduled several performances that included Rock the Arts Puppetry, French performer: Roland Bibeau, Blues in School, Almonte dance academy, and autobiographical story-teller, Kim Kirkpatrick.

Approximately $4,000 has been earmarked for our new play structure at Huntley Centennial.

School Council organized a very successful speaker series again this year – comprising of 3 keynote speakers:

  • In January: Dr. Jo-Anne Lefevre spoke on how children learn math and how parents can help.
  • In February: Tina Daniels spoke on bullying and social relations
  • In April: Robert Coplan spoke on shyness; the challenges shy children face and how parents and teachers can help

Several families, affected by disasters or in financial need in our school community, were supported by providing food for a school lunch cupboard, Christmas baskets, gift cards and by providing funds for field trips.

Other fundraising items purchased in 2013/2014 included:

  • $7,000 toward technology; this included 6 new Epsom Interactive projectors and Chromebooks
  • $2,400 on science equipment for the junior and intermediate divisions, including microscopes
  • School sports –soccer field lines
  • Indoor Sports equipment – $4,300 was allocated for non-traditional sports
  • Razz Kids Reading software licensing
  • Grade 8 graduation support
  • Supported Huntley Arts Festival, Terry Fox run, Outdoor fun day and Kindergarten bubble day
  • Gardening Club expenses comprising tools, bulbs and mulch
  • Staff appreciation events
  • School Council banner
